9:00AM-11:00AM So You Want To Go To AKC Rally Nationals?
Perfect for a) the exhibitor who has never been to Nationals but wants to go this year or in the future, b) an experienced exhibitor with a dog that might need more help to get ready or c) someone who just wants to work on some challenges and distractions. If the new format for 2023 is released by this time, we will discuss. We'll set up training scenarios to practice for the rigors of a large show and play with some challenges used on RNC courses. Signs used may skew towards the lower levels so multiple levels can participate but this workshop is for any level team, and upper-level teams will be accommodated with appropriate work.

11:15AM - 1:15PM Teaching Intermediate/Advanced
Perfect for those who have taken our Rally Novice workshops, this workshop will introduce concepts to prepare for successful performance in the AKC Intermediate and Advanced class, including pivots, stands, turns with circles, call to heel, side steps and fronts from a halt. Suggestions for training at home will be incorporated. After covering these behaviors, we will finish with a course. Off-leash skills will not be taught in this workshop and dogs do NOT need to be working reliably off leash to attend. A jump will be nested into the course for Advanced-level dogs (does not have to be attempted by Intermediate-level dogs staying on leash).

This workshop is specifically for giant breed teams looking to clean up their AKC Rally performance. Topics will include rear end awareness, tight turns (especially left), dealing with distractions, thoughtful use of cues to prepare dogs for harder signs, and handler skills and strategies. Handlers should be familiar with AKC Rally Intermediate/Advanced at minimum. Experienced handlers with green dogs are welcome! This workshop will not have a heavy focus on running courses but will instead cover the individual pieces that make or break a run, with coursework added as time permits.

9AM - 11AM Teaching AKC Excellent: For handlers competing in or comfortable with AKC Intermediate or above. We will cover in detail the skills needed for success at the Excellent level of AKC Rally, including but not limited to: moving stands and downs, "signal" stands, backing up, and position changes in heel and at a short distance. THIS WORKSHOP WILL PRIMARILY BE GROUP WORK, NOT COURSE WORK. Time permitting, we will finish with a short course to practice skills learned.

We'll critique each run and break down areas that present themselves to be a challenge. Time permitting, we'll work on ring entries, distractions, and other aspects of being Rally-trial-ready. We'll finish with handlers having another opportunity to run a course. You do not need to be competing at the Master level to participate in this workshop, any team familiar with the Excellent-level signs is enthusiastically welcomed!

11:15AM - 1:15PM - Rally Break-It-Down! When encountering a multi-step Rally sign, there are two reasons you might lose points: one, because the handler does not know the nuances of the sign (sit or no sit? Front or no front? Pause or no pause?), or two, because as a part of the sign, there is a behavior expected that the dog has not yet mastered. This workshop will take a sampling of signs primarily from the Master, Excellent, Advanced levels that involve multiple steps. We will break the signs down to 1) improve handler recognition and 2) to teach the dog and proof the individual pieces that comprise the entire Rally exercise. This is not a workshop for Rally coursework.
