Samantha Scicchigno (Staten Island, NY) has been teaching Rally classes since 2013. She has competed successfully at every level of AKC Rally, earning many High Triple and High Combined scores as well as a Rally Championship (RACH), and has shown at AKC Rally Nationals several times with her two mixed breed dogs.
This workshop will be from:
9 AM to 11 AM on March 19th.
9AM - 11AM Teaching AKC Excellent: For handlers competing in or comfortable with AKC Intermediate or above. We will cover in detail the skills needed for success at the Excellent level of AKC Rally, including but not limited to: moving stands and downs, "signal" stands, backing up, and position changes in heel and at a short distance. THIS WORKSHOP WILL PRIMARILY BE GROUP WORK, NOT COURSE WORK. Time permitting, we will finish with a short course to practice skills learned.
Price: $50 Working Spot, $25 Auditing Spot.

11:15AM - 1:15PM Novice/Advanced Overload!: For dogs competing in Advanced, Intermediate, or Novice, or anyone wanting to freshen up their skills. Stop losing points on incorrect performances - let's break down where point loss happens most often at these levels. We will cover the trickiest of the Intermediate/Advanced and Novice signs as a group and then finish with coursework to practice the skills learned.

1:30 to 3:30 PM on March 19th
1:30PM - 3:30PM BIG DOG Skills and Drills This workshop is specifically for large dog or giant breed teams looking to clean up their AKC Rally performance. Topics will include rear end awareness, tight turns (especially left), dealing with distractions, thoughtful use of cues to prepare dogs for harder signs, and handler skills and strategies. Handlers should be familiar with AKC Rally Intermediate/Advanced at minimum. Experienced handlers with green dogs are welcome! This workshop will not have a heavy focus on running courses but will instead cover the individual pieces that make or break a run, with coursework added as time permits.

11:15AM - 1:15PM - Rally Break-It-Down! When encountering a multi-step Rally sign, there are two reasons you might lose points: one, because the handler does not know the nuances of the sign (sit or no sit? Front or no front? Pause or no pause?), or two, because as a part of the sign, there is a behavior expected that the dog has not yet mastered. This workshop will take a sampling of signs primarily from the Master, Excellent, Advanced levels that involve multiple steps. We will break the signs down to 1) improve handler recognition and 2) to teach the dog and proof the individual pieces that comprise the entire Rally exercise. This is not a workshop for Rally coursework.
